TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTHI) - You may want to turn on your heat before going to bed Thursday night as the first hard freeze of the season is expected.

This means our temperatures are expected to fall between 28 to 31 degrees. Tender vegetation will likely be killed, and the ground will be frozen.

Here are some tips to get through the freeze:

  • Bring in your pets or make sure they are properly sheltered.
  • Cover or bring in plants you don't want to die.
  • Put insulation on pipes that are exposed to the outdoor temperatures.

The couple good things about a freeze are that it will kill adult fleas and mosquitoes.
