TERRE HAUTE, Ind (WTHI) - According to Ear Nose and Throat Dr. Arvin Uppal, this time of year the weeds are pollinating and people with allergies tend to have more problems.

When a rain comes it can bring relief, but rain is not something the Wabash Valley has seen much of this August.

Dr. Uppal said if possible try and stay away from allergens.

"Nasal rinses would easily be the next step because they have zero side effects and can be very effective in terms of getting the pollen washed out of the nose. The next step after that would be to use over the counter medications such as Benedryl and Claritin which are available at any drug store," Dr Uppal said.

Uppal also suggests if home remedies do not work to seek your doctors attention to help narrow-in on what your true allergy is.
