TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTHI) - A popular method to rent movies could make it easier for your kids to view restricted material.
Redbox machines, a one stop shop to rent DVD's, are popping up around the area which you've probably seen them in your community.
You use a credit card, pick out your movie, and return it one day later. It's all automated.
However, without people working it, some caregivers are concerned with how easy it is to obtain restricted material.
Kids only need to confirm they are 18 to rent R-Rated movies, without I.D.
"It really bothers me, Because I walk past these time in and time out and just never really paid attention to it. So now that I see how easy it is, oh yes I'll be watching more," Pam Shelton, who has a granddaughter in middle school said.
News 10 contacted Redbox about this situation. They told news 10 in a written statement:
"Like others in the industry, Redbox believes parental supervision in family entertainment is important at the point of rental and consumption."
They said it's the parent's responsibility to monitor what their child sees.
Redbox also said they are not legally responsible if a child obtains an R-rated movie.
They say attempts to restrict movie rentals based on ratings violate the first amendment.
