TERRE HAUTE, Ind (WTHI) - Drivers are still feeling the effect of the June 2008 flood, but relief may soon be on the way.

Road closed signs are a common sight since the flood. A total of seven bridges in Vigo County were knocked out of commission by the flood. Nearly two years later, three still need construction work.

Bids for two of the bridges were opened a couple of weeks ago and will be awarded on Wednesday. The last bid will be opened in mid-April.

"A bridge is not just the kind of thing you go out and replace. You have to survey, environmental permit, design process and go through the big process," Vigo County Engineer Jerry Neitherlain said.

FEMA paid for 75% of the costs to fix the damaged bridges. Vigo County had to pick up the tab for the remaining 25%.
