TERRE HAUTE, Ind (WTHI) - Around 5 p.m. on Monday, July 26, Greg “Andy” Bent said that he was riding westbound on Old Ft. Harrison, when he heard a vehicle approaching from behind.
Bent said he then traveled to the far right side of the roadway to let the vehicle pass. Then, without warning, Bent said that he was stuck from behind by the vehicle and thrown from his bike.
Witnesses say when Bent was thrown from the bike; the driver of the vehicle slowed momentarily, looked back, and then accelerated with no apparent regard for Bent’s welfare.
Witnesses further report that the suspect’s vehicle then turned north on Smith Street where the driver and front passenger quickly exited the vehicle and changed places, before speeding away.
The vehicle is believed to be a late 1980’s Oldsmobile Delta 88 with faded gold paint. The vehicle displayed a blue Indiana plate.
The driver who struck Bent is described as a large frame white female in her 30’s with light colored hair. She was wearing a white top with red capri pants.
The white male passenger was reported to have a slender build, and was described as younger than the female.
"You hit a person, you didn't hit a tree,” Bent said. “I hope that maybe next time you know something like this happens you can stop and make sure that person is OK and be more aware of the surroundings."
Any information on this hit and run crash can be reported to the Vigo County Sheriff Criminal Investigation Division at 812-462-3317.
