TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTHI) - The Wabash Valley saw some winter weather this weekend.

However, that didn't stop many from getting outside and supporting a cause around the globe.

Indiana State University's Chi Sigma Iota hosted a 5K walk/run at Heritage Trail in Terre Haute.

Proceeds help fund a trip for counseling graduate students to go to Cambodia and Thailand to work with victims of human trafficking.

It's also an opportunity to raise awareness about the international problem.

"A lot of children at a very young age are forced into human trafficking. This is into sex slaving or labor unwillingly and sometimes they're sold into it and what we're doing down there is working with people that have been rescued," ISU's Chi Sigma Iota President Stephanie Collins said.

So far, the group has raised about $700.

Counselors are planning on making the trip this May.
