Sullivan County plane crashes in Ohio leaving no survivors

MILLERSBURG, Ohio (WTHI/AP) - A plane that took off from Sullivan County Airport crashes leaving three people dead.

According to Holmes County, Ohio Coroner Dr. Robert Anthony, Phillip Hatfield, 48, and Tracy Custer, 38, and Jon Hines died in the crash.

Custer is from Shelburn, Hines is from Farmersburg, and Hatfield is from Easton, Pa. but News 10 learned he recently moved to Jasonville, Ind.

The manager of the Sullivan County Airport said a Piper Apache Twin Engine Plane, registered to Hatfield, took off from the airport Monday morning.

After failing to show up at its destination of Steubenville, Ohio, the plane was reported missing. It was located Tuesday by authorities in Holmes County, Ohio. All three passengers died.

The Sullivan County Airport manager said the news was heartbreaking, adding these are the first fatalities linked to the airport since it opened in 1966.

The crash is being investigated by the Holmes County Sheriffs Department in Ohio.
