TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTHI) - One woman was airlifted to an Indianapolis hospital after suffering severe burns in a motel fire in Terre Haute.
Terre Haute firefighters responded to a call about a fire at Super 8 Motel on the south side of the city around 6:45 a.m.
Fire crews were able to contain the fire to the single room. The cause of the fire is still unknown.
According to motel employees, the fire was contained to the room the victim was located in. The employees believe a lit cigarette was to blame for the fire.
The employees stated that the Super 8 is a non-smoking building.
According to Terre Haute Fire Department Chief Jeff Fisher, the woman rescued from the room was rushed to a local hospital. Due to the severity of her injuries, the woman was airlifted to Wishard Hospital in Indianapolis for further treatment.
Fire crews are still investigating the cause of the fire.
