TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTHI) - Graduation rates are on the rise for schools in the Wabash Valley.

Tuesday leaders with the Vigo County School Corporation announced their 2011 graduation rates surpassed the state average.

Danny Tanoos, Vigo County School Corporation Superintendent says his staff has really stepped up to the plate when it comes to helping their students succeed.

"I think it comes down to if you either lead, follow or get out of the way. I think we have true leaders that lead, that know when to follow and they know when to get out of the way to let people who are more creative in their building do their job."

Graduation rates improved at all five Vigo County School Corporation high schools.

In 2011 the graduation rate for schools in Vigo County increased four-percent, which bumped VCSC’s schools to a rate of 88.4 percent.

That's more than two-percent better than the state average of 85.7 percent.
