INDIANA (WTHI) - On September 28, 2012, David M. Schroeder was reported as a Missing Person to the Terre Haute Police Department.  Mr. Schroeder's information was sent to the Vigo County Central Dispatch for entry into IDACS/NCIC immediately after completion of the initial report, and a trace of his cell phone activity was initiated that day.

Every effort has been made to locate Mr. Schroeder, including efforts to request a Silver Alert.

Unfortunately, the THPD's request for the issuance of a Silver Alert has been denied by the state Amber/Silver Alert Center.

The basis for this denial rests with questions A and B, under Section 3, of the attached "Agency Checklist for Silver Alert Request".

According to the release information from the Amber/Silver Alert Center attached to the THPD release, the refusal was based on Schroeder not meeting the following:

  • A) Due to the mental impairment, the individual can not find his or her way back to their residence without assistance from Law Enforcement.
  • B) Due to physical or mental impairment, or lack of medication, this individual, if driving, could be a danger to themselves or others.

Section 3 requires that "CREDITABLE MEDICAL AUTHORITY ATTEST TO ONE OF THE FOLLOWING STATEMENTS".

Mr. Schroeder's doctor is unable to attest to either of these qualifying statements in this case.

The THPD will, however, continue all efforts to locate Mr. Schroeder.
