TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTHI) - Senior Brittany Schoen scored a game-high 20 points on the road against the Wichita State Shockers, sending her career total over the 1,000 point mark and becoming the 24th member of the Indiana State women’s basketball team to join the select club. Schoen’s 20 points were not enough for the Sycamores to pick up the road victory, however, as the Missouri Valley Conference leading Shockers ended the game on a 14-4 run to earn a 74-63 win inside Koch Arena.

The loss is the fifth straight for the Sycamores, dropping ISU to 10-11 overall and 4-5 within the MVC. The Shockers improved to 14-6 on the season, 8-1 in league play.

A 9-0 run early in the first half gave Indiana State their largest lead of the game, as a three-pointer by Schoen capped the two minute run and put ISU in front 16-6 with 13:11 left in the half.

Indiana State led for nearly the entire first half, but the Sycamores went without a field goal for the final four and a half minutes of the first half as the Shockers turned a seven-point ISU lead into a 36-35 Wichita State advantage at the break on a layup by redshirt freshman Krystle Henderson.

The Sycamores were balanced offensively in the opening 20 minutes, placing seven scorers between four and six points. Senior Shannon Thomas and junior Taylor Whitley led the team with six points each.

Wichita State looked prime to pull away for an easy victory, opening the second half on a 10-0 run to take a 46-35 lead with 16:38 to play. Indiana State responded with an 11-0 run of their own two minutes later, using two treys from Schoen around another by senior Deja Mattox to get within one before taking the lead on an offensive rebound and layup by sophomore Anna Munn. Munn’s layup gave the Sycamores a 51-50 lead with 9:20 to play.

Schoen carried the ISU offense over the next five minutes, scoring nine straight points on two three-pointers and three shots at the charity stripe after a foul. The senior from Elizabeth, Ind., went over 1,000 points for her career with her first three of her personal 9-0 run, bringing ISU within one, at 60-59, after her three shots at the line with 4:06 on the clock.

That was as close as ISU would get on Sunday, as WSU ended the game on a 14-4 run to secure the victory.

Schoen led all scorers with 20 points, knocking down five three-pointers for the game. Munn joined her teammate in double figures, adding 11 points and a game-high five assists. WSU put four scorers in double-digits, led by senior Haleigh Lankster’s 16-point, 10-rebound double-double.
