Local lawmakers react to Right to Work vote

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - Indiana house members approved the controversial Right to Work legislation Wednesday afternoon.

The House reconvened at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday and allowed speeches by both parties. These speeches were interrupted multiple times by chants from protesters.

A vote was taking around 4:40 p.m. following the speeches, with the final result being a 54-44 vote in favor of Right to Work.

Local lawmakers reacted differently to the decision.

"Most union are not gonna lose membership," said Republican Representative Bruce Borders,  "but it may make them more responsive to some of their members who say, 'wait a minute, I disagree with this or that.'"

"There were so many things that we could have worked bipartisanly together; really solved problems and really created jobs and unfortunately we chose this path," said Democrat Minority Whip Kreg Battles.

It's important to note that this bill will not go directly to Governor Daniel's desk.

The House version passed Wednesday will be blended with the Senate Version that was passed Monday.

Representatives say the earliest a bill could reach Daniels is the Wednesday before the Super Bowl.

As soon as Daniels signs the bill, it would immediately become law.
