TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTHI) - It's official! Indiana State University has its biggest freshman class ever.

There are 2,707 Sycamore freshmen this fall. That's up about 33 percent over last year. It gives the University a total student body of 11,494.

ISU Vice President for Enrollment Management John Beacon credits more aggressive recruiting and temporarily waiving application fees for the increase.

The number of extra students means extra revenue. Although some money is spent hiring adjunct faculty to deal with the higher numbers.

Beacon said he's excited about this year's figures, but ISU don't have the room to grow the same amount next year.

"We may have to look at capping enrollment earlier than we did last year, which would be a sign that students who are interested in attending the university should apply earlier than they did this year," said Beacon.

Graduate student enrollment is also at an all-time high with 2,121 students enrolled.
