Indianapolis, Ind. (WTHI) - A multi-million dollar project will enhance one local zoo and raise awareness for an endangered species.
The Indianapolis Zoo broke ground today on a $21.5 million exhibit that'll hold orangutans from southeast Asia.
Indiana Governor Mitch Daniels was on hand for the ceremony.
The International Orangutan Center will open in 2014.
It will hold eight endangered orangutans.
The new complex will feature an open-air cable system.
That will allow the orangutans to move between location over-top of walkways, providing visitors the ability to see the species in a more natural habitat.
