INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - The Bureau of Labor Statistics says that Indiana lost nearly 5,800 jobs in October amid the nation's mounting economic woes.
Indiana was among 38 states and the District of Columbia that lost jobs last month. The agency released the preliminary figures Friday.
Indiana's seasonally adjusted unemployment rate rose from 6.2% in September to 6.4% in October, but it remained below the national unemployment rate of 6.5%.
Indiana's unemployment rate was also lower than its neighboring states.
Michigan's October unemployment rate was 9.3%, Ohio and Illinois both had 7.3% jobless rates and Kentucky's unemployment rate was 6.8%.
