WARSAW, Ind. (AP) - Investigators believe a mo-ped left idling next to a northern Indiana apartment building might have caused a fire that killed a woman.
Authorities say the fire early Tuesday caused heavy damage to one unit in the Warsaw apartment complex and lesser damage to seven others.
A woman trapped inside, 52-year-old Joan Bernstein died of smoke inhalation.
Police say the mo-ped parked in a ground-floor breezeway likely sparked the fire that spread to the building's vinyl siding. Police Lt. Kip Shuter says foul play isn't suspected.
