Indiana (WTHI) - Nonprofit groups across Indiana are pleading to lawmakers to keep specialty license plates.
A legislative study committee heard testimony this week.
At debate, whether the state should continue in the business of providing license plates that tout everything from state universities to the patriot guard.
The issue surfaced last year when conservative lawmakers tried to eliminate specialty plates for a gay youth group.
Their push failed, but the Bureau of Motor Vehicles later stripped the plates from that group and two others.
Plate supporters say the plates raise a lot of money for non-profit groups across Indiana.
