MARION COUNTY, Ind. (WISH) - Health experts say the remnants of Hurricane Isaac could help curb the West Nile Virus in Central Indiana.
Indiana University Health Neurologist Dr. Karen Roos says the expected heavy rains will help wash away mosquito larvae and refill the current low level water ways where mosquitoes are laying eggs.
The Centers for Disease Control expects the number of West Nile cases across the U.S. to accelerate over the next few weeks. The agency says it is one of the worst years on record when it comes to people becoming ill and dying from the virus.
Two people have died in Indiana.
Mosquitoes carrying the virus have been found in all nine townships in Marion County.
Health experts recommend staying indoors during the dawn and dusk hours when mosquitoes are most active. If you are outside, health officials recommend using mosquito repellent.
