TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTHI) - As campaigns for statewide offices in Indiana carry on, many of the candidates are spending their time promoting plans to grow jobs and attract business.
On Thursday, Democratic candidate for Lieutenant Governor Vi Simpson spoke about gubernatorial candidate John Gregg’s plan to grow small business growth.
“We are trying to put a lot of emphasis in this campaign, and therefore in our administration, on those small businesses where the jobs of the future will be,” Simpson said.
To grow those jobs, Gregg has called for tax breaks for companies that move jobs to Indiana from overseas. He has also called for new means of connecting veterans with jobs for which they are suited. Gregg’s plan also includes a type of navigator or mentor to help new businesses through red tape.
Meanwhile, Republican gubernatorial candidate Mike Pence has called for limits on regulations which could slow or stop new businesses and additions to existing businesses. Pence says he would favor a moratorium on new regulations and a careful review of existing regulations.
Pence has also called for an across-the-board cut in income taxes which he says will create a better business climate.
“Indiana will have the lowest tax burden in the Midwest, giving us an even better story to tell businesses looking to invest in the heartland of America,” Pence said in a speech.
