TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTHI) - All lanes of Interstate 70 are back open after a Sunday evening crash that claimed a life.
It happened just before 7:00 Sunday night near the 12 mile marker, just west of State Road 46.
Police say two semis were stalled on the highway and a wrecker was working to get them moved.
As traffic was slowing down and merging for those stalled semis, another semi crashed into the back of a pickup truck, shoving it into the back of another pickup.
The impact caused both pickups to crash into one of the semi trailers on the shoulder of the road.
A female driver of one of the pickups died at the scene. Her name has not been released.
Her passenger was airlifted to Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis with life-threatening injuries.
The male driver and his wife in the other pickup are from Anderson, Indiana and were both taken to Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis with life-threatening injuries.
