ROSELAWN, Ind. (AP) - State Police say northbound lanes of Interstate 65 in northern Indiana have been closed following a series of crashes that claimed one life.
Sgt. Dan Leslie of the Lowell post says northbound lanes of I-65 south of Roselawn in Jasper County remained closed about 1 p.m. Saturday some five hours after three crashes involving about 20 vehicles.
Sgt. Leslie says one person was killed and two others seriously injured when a dozen vehicles were involved in two crashes in the northbound lanes. A third crash also occurred in southbound lanes.
Leslie says reduced visibility caused by fog and also smoke from a nearby burning dairy barn apparently caused the crashes about 50 miles southeast of Chicago.
Northbound travelers are being routed off the highway at mile marker 220 northwest of Rensselaer.
