Marshall vineyard surviving in drought

MARSHALL, Ill. (WTHI) - You've seen the pictures of dried and damaged corn and soy bean crops again and again, but things are looking a lot brighter, and juicier at Rob Morgan's vineyard.

He owns Castle Finn Winery in Marshall, Illinois. He also farms corn so he knows how bad it's been, but he told News 10 the drought hasn't squeezed the life out of the grapes.

"Grapes are a deep rooted crop and they don't like wet feet, which means they don't like a wet summer, they'd rather have a dry summer," Morgan said.

That means the lack of rain hasn't been much of a problem. The only noticeable side affect is that the harvest has come in about two weeks early. Morgan also said they may be slightly less sweet. All in all, it's nothing for him to worry about.

He believes he'll have a good grape harvest this year.
