PARIS, Ill. (WTHI) - A Paris teenager accused of killing his mother is out of state custody and awaiting trial.
Court records show that, on September 2, someone posted the $10,000 bond needed to get Terry Payton, 16, released from state custody.
Payton faces murder charges in the June stabbing death of his mother, Kathie Payton.
The money was posted three days after an Edgar County judge reduced the Payton’s bond from $500,000 to $100,000 and allowed him to pay 10 percent of that amount.
Under the judge’s instructions, Payton is allowed to live with two short-term guardians.
He must always be with one of those guardians, can only leave home for medical or legal appointments, to attend church or visit the library.
Payton is also required to submit to electronic home monitoring, and he cannot leave Illinois.
His jury trial is set to begin November 28.
