State Fire Marshal investigating Charleston fire

CHARLESTON, Ill. (WTHI) - An early morning fire partially destroyed a building located near an arts center in Charleston, Ill. on Monday.

Multiple fire departments responded to a call to dispatch about a fire located at a building on S. 9th St. in Charleston, Ill.

Fire crews arrived at the scene to discover an apartment building's second story was ablaze.  That building is located near the Tarble Arts Center.

Firefighters were able to contain the fire to the second floor.  Luckily, no one was injured.

The Illinois State Fire Marshal is at the scene, and will be heading the investigation.  Fire Chief Pat Goodwin said the Marshal took over to help determine if the cause of the fire was intentional or accidental.

The cause of the fire hasn’t been released at this time.
