CLARK CO., Ill. (WTHI) - A Marshall, Illinois school bus driver dies after an early morning crash.

The Clark County Sheriff's Office tells News 10, around 8 a.m. on Thursday, a school bus was headed east of Route 40 and Route 1 at the intersection of Route 40, when the bus crashed.

Vigo Co. Coroner Dr. Roland Kohr tells News 10, the bus driver, Faye Pickering, 55, died of an apparent cardiac related illness.

Rick Manuell, Superintendent of Marshall Community School District says children were transported to North Elementary where all students were checked out by medical staff.

"We had twenty-three kids on the bus from kindergarten through high school. We are very fortunate. We had maybe a bump or a bruise but as far as what you would call a physical injury; we are very fortunate,” Manuell.

Manuell says he's impressed with his staff and everyone's quick response.

Within minutes, four principals, a guidance counselor and two nurses had arrived on scene.

Manuell says students that were shook up from the accident went home with their parents while many kids returned to school for the day.
