QUINCY, Ill. (AP) - The city of Quincy has put a bid in to host the carbon dioxide storage site for the FutureGen project.
Mayor John Spring on Monday announced that the city had submitted a 39-page proposal to the U.S. Department of Energy. The Quincy Herald Whig reports that the storage site would be located near Quincy Regional Airport.
The FutureGen plan involves retrofitting a power plant in Meredosia and piping the carbon dioxide it produces to a site for storage.
Spring says Quincy may be a long shot for the storage site but it was worth the city's while to pursue it.
Pittsfield also submitted a bid to host the storage site on Monday.
A decision is expected next year.
