ROCKFORD, Ill. (AP) - Plows are salting streets throughout northern Illinois as the state's first major snowstorm of the season makes a slower-than-expected approach.

Counties under a winter storm warning had traces of snow flutter to the ground Sunday afternoon. Forecasters say 8 inches of snow is expected to fall on north central Illinois by mid-day Monday.

Rockford crews prepared by salting streets. The Peoria area has already been hit and crews cleared snow from major intersections.

The Peoria suburb of Bartonville is enforcing a parking ban so plows can clear roads.

Chicago's O'Hare International Airport is seeing flight delays of up to 90 minutes, and more than 50 flights have been canceled.
Chicago officials say city roads are slippery and drivers should be cautious.
