ELGIN, Ill. (AP) — The lone bison at a suburban Chicago zoo finally has some new companions.

The (Arlington Heights) Daily Herald reports (http://bit.ly/13x1YeL ) Lords Park Zoo in Elgin welcomed two bison last week.

Drew and Becky are both 13-year-old female bison from Brookfield Zoo. They join longtime resident Pokey, a 21-year-old female.

Bison have been a tradition at Lords Park Zoo since 1909. But Pokey has been on her own since 2011, when a bison named Dakota died.

The newcomers were kept away from Pokey for one day, until they got used to their new surroundings. Elgin Parks Superintendent Jim Bell says they seem calm and relaxed and appear to be enjoying their new home.

The public is invited to meet the bison during a public feeding on March 30.
