CHICAGO (AP) — A suburban Chicago police officer who authorities say had a blood-alcohol level at nearly twice the legal limit when he allegedly drove the wrong way on Chicago's Lake Shore Drive and caused a crash that killed two people has been ordered held on $500,000 bail.
Terrell Garrett faces aggravated driving under the influence and reckless homicide and on Sunday a judge set his bond at $500,000. The North Chicago Police Department has placed him on administrative leave.
Garrett was off duty at the time was injured in Friday's crash and is in serious condition at Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center. His attorney, Richard Blass, appeared on his behalf at Sunday's hearing.
Witnesses told police the wrong-way driver was traveling at least 60 mph in a 45-mph zone.
