CHICAGO (AP) — Chicago's Grant Park is inviting skateboarders to make the lakefront area their new hangout.

The Chicago Park District plans to use $1 million in tax increment financing money to build a permanent skateboard park there.

Bob O'Neil is president of the Grant Park Conservancy and Advisory Council. He tells WBBM radio (http://cbsloc.al/VYMVbE ) that the project is meant to draw more young people to the area known locally as Chicago's front yard.

O'Neil says such efforts help ensure the park attracts people of all ages.

The skate park will be near 11th and Michigan and could be ready by fall of next year.
