BLOOMINGTON, Ill. (AP) — Radio Bloomington General Manager Red Pitcher has retired after 25 years in central Illinois.
WJBC-AM in Bloomington reports (http://bit.ly/WupotV) that Pitcher retired on Thursday. Pitcher had a booming, distinctive voice. He worked in Ohio, Tennessee and Texas before coming to Bloomington in 1988. He also served in the Marines.
Pitcher announced his retirement in January. He said the most significant moment of his tenure was the aftermath of the terrorist attacks on Sept. 11, 2001.
Pitcher says he tried to preserve Radio Bloomington's legacy "to serve the public and the community."
