SWANSEA, Ill. (AP) — A Belleville man is jailed on $5 million bail after being accused in a southwestern Illinois city's first homicide in seven years.
Prosecutors in St. Clair County on Sunday charged 37-year-old Kristofer McDavid with first-degree murder in the death of 50-year-old Carmen Boyd.
Boyd's body was found Friday by her landlord in her apartment in Swansea, just east of St. Louis. McDavid was arrested Saturday.
Specifics about how Boyd was killed or whether the victim knew McDavid haven't been released.
Police Chief Mike Arnold says it was the 10,600-resident city's first homicide since 2006.
It was not immediately clear Sunday if McDavid had an attorney. He does not have a listed home telephone number.
