ELGIN, Ill. (AP) — Authorities in Kane County say they've arrested and charged a 34-year-old man in the slaying of an Elgin artist who was stabbed to death earlier this month.
Paul Johnson is a convicted felon who has served time for residential burglary. He was ordered held on $5 million bail. Johnson was charged Sunday with first-degree murder, home invasion and residential burglary in the March 2 slaying of 33-year-old Lisa Koziol-Ellis.
Authorities say Koziol-Ellis and her husband had just moved into the neighborhood where Johnson had lived since he was paroled from prison a little more than a year ago.
Authorities would not discuss a possible motive, but Kane County State's Attorney Joe McMahon says Johnson stabbed the woman several times. He called it an "exceptionally brutal and heinous" crime.
