BELLEVILLE, Ill. (AP) — A former longtime southwestern Illinois prosecutor has died a little more than a week after being sworn in as a judge.

St. Clair County Chief Circuit Judge John Baricevic (bar-ah-SEV'-ick) says 49-year-old Joe Christ (CRIST) died Sunday of natural causes during a duck-hunting trip.

The county's coroner's office says Christ died outside of its jurisdiction, and that an autopsy was planned.

Christ served nearly 18 years as an assistant St. Clair County state's attorney before being appointed last month as an associate judge.

He was a married father of six.

Funeral arrangements are pending.
