Man on ATV killed when hit by Amtrak train

GARDNER, Ill. (AP) — A man was killed when the all-terrain vehicle he was driving near Gardner was struck by an Amtrak train.

Grundy County Coroner John Callahan on Wednesday pronounced 28-year-old Brad Emanuelson of Essex dead at the scene of the accident.

The (Kankakee) Daily Journal reports (http://bit.ly/13oIn06 ) authorities say Emanuelson was one of three ATV drivers who were operating on a railroad right of way. The men were headed toward Gardner when the train struck the vehicle being driven by Emanuelson.

Callahan said the crash is being investigated by his office, the Grundy County Sheriff's Department and the railroad police.
