EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. (AP) — A man convicted of sexually attacking two toddlers in southwestern Illinois is headed to prison for the rest of his life.
A judge in Madison County on Friday sentenced 30-year-old Michael Burgund of Alton to spend the rest of his life behind bars. Prosecutors had sought that punishment.
Jurors convicted Burgund in December of six counts of predatory criminal sexual assault.
He was charged in April 2011 after going to Alton police and admitting he sexually assaulted two toddlers beginning in June 2008. The victims at the time were 2 and 3 years old.
Burgund testified during his trial and denied the allegations.
