BELLEVILLE, Ill. (AP) — A man faces up to 60 years in prison now that he has been convicted him of first-degree murder in the 2010 shooting death of a teenager in East St. Louis.
A St. Clair County jury deliberated an hour and a half Thursday before finding 23-year-old Trenton Jefferson guilty. Sentencing is scheduled for April 17.
Jurors concluded that Jefferson killed 17-year-old Marcus Gosa of Washington Park early on April 10, 2010, in an alley.
It was the second trial for Jefferson in the case. A mistrial was declared last September after jurors couldn't agree on a verdict.
After Thursday's verdict, a judge revoked Jefferson's bond at the request of prosecutors, meaning Jefferson will remain jailed until sentencing.
