Lawyer: Client released in threat case at attend college

EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. (AP) — An attorney for a former Southern Illinois University student who was released from prison after an appeals court tossed his conviction in a threat case says his client hopes to pursue more education.

Twenty-seven-year-old Olutosin Oduwole (oh-loo-TOH'-sihn oh-DOO'-wawl-ee) was freed Monday under court order from a prison in Jacksonville. An Illinois appeals court last week threw out his conviction and five-year prison sentence, ruling prosecutors failed to prove he actively tried to convey a threat.

Oduwole was convicted in 2011, after prosecutors argued a piece of paper in his abandoned car in 2007 suggested a murderous rampage would occur if he wasn't paid $50,000. An aspiring rapper, Oduwole insisted the writings were innocent lyrics and other musings.

Oduwole attorney Jeff Urdangen says his client plans to enroll in an Illinois college.
