Illinois to get less from Interior Department

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) — Officials say automatic federal spending cuts mean about $5 million less for Illinois from the agency that oversees federal lands, resources and national parks.

Gov. Pat Quinn received a letter from the U.S. Department of the Interior outlining cuts in the state.

The reduction of about 5 percent for Illinois means $3 million in cuts for Bureau of Indian Affairs programming. That's also $1.4 million less for the Fish and Wildlife Service including for sites like the Cypress Creek National Wildlife Refuge in Ullin.

Other cuts include nearly $260,000 to the National Park Service for sites like the Lincoln Home National Historic Site.
