SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) — An Illinois House committee could vote Tuesday on a measure allowing same-sex couples to marry.

Chicago Democratic Rep. Greg Harris says he expects the House Executive Committee to approve his legislation and send it to the full body.

The Senate approved the measure earlier this month with Democratic backing and a single Republican vote.

Advocates for giving same-sex couples the same marital rights as heterosexuals acknowledge there's more resistance in the House than in the Senate. But they're confident of House approval in the next two weeks.

But Harris says he has not decided when he would call a floor vote.

A House OK would send the matter to Democratic Gov. Pat Quinn. He says he'll sign it.

The bill is SB10.
