FBI searches NIU police station

DEKALB, Ill. (AP) — Officials at Northern Illinois University say the FBI has searched the campus police station.

FBI spokeswoman Joan Hyde said Wednesday that agents and officers executed a search warrant at the campus, but offered no details. NIU spokesman Joe King said authorities were at the campus police station but declined to elaborate. The FBI says the search warrant is part of "an ongoing criminal investigation" including Illinois State Police, the U.S. Department of Education and U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.

In February a DeKalb County grand jury indicted a former NIU police officer of sexual assault. The indictment follows last month's firing of former NIU Police Chief Donald Grady for the mishandling of evidence in the initial sexual assault case. There is no confirmation Wednesday's search warrant was related.
