DIXON, Ill. (AP) — U.S. Marshals are auctioning off jewelry that belonged to imprisoned former Dixon comptroller Rita Crundwell.
Earlier this month, Crundwell was sentenced to nearly 20 years in prison after admitting she stole more than $53 million from the northern Illinois city. U.S. Marshals are selling off her belongings to raise money for restitution. That includes her jewelry, which will go up for auction in Fort Worth, Texas, on Saturday. The auction will be simulcast on the Internet. A preview is scheduled for Friday.
Federal authorities say the auction includes a lot of gold bar bullion starting at nearly $1.5 million and a $25,000 Rolex watch. It also includes a gold bracelet, platinum diamond ring and gold necklace and pendant.
