CHICAGO (AP) — Cook County Sheriff Tom Dart says the Cook County jail is nearly full and he's worried about what the busy summer months will bring for the Chicago facility.
Dart tells the Chicago Sun-Times (http://bit.ly/YOdaPJ) that it will be "a humongous problem" for him in June, July and August. The jail was 96 percent full last week. The population was 9,721. Capacity is 10,150.
Dart says there are more inmates because of Chicago's homicide rate and a crackdown on gun crimes and other violence.
