SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) — Former President Bill Clinton is this year's recipient of the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library Foundation's Lincoln Leadership Prize.
Library officials made the announcement Wednesday, saying Clinton will be the first former U.S. president to receive the award. The honor will be presented on May 4 in Chicago. Clinton is expected to attend.
Foundation officials say the prize is for individuals who have strength of character, individual conscience and a commitment to democracy. Former recipients include former Polish President Lech Walesa, Archbishop Desmond Tutu, astronaut Jim Lovell and retired Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O'Connor.
