BELLEVILLE, Ill. (AP) — Authorities allege that an acquaintance fatally stabbed a southwestern Illinois woman in the face and neck during a confrontation.
Prosecutors in St. Clair County on Sunday charged 37-year-old Kristofer McDavid with first-degree murder in the death of 50-year-old Carmen Boyd. He's jailed on $5 million bond.
Boyd's landlord found her body Friday in her apartment in Swansea, just east of St. Louis. McDavid was arrested Saturday.
The deputy commander of the law-enforcement coalition that investigated the case isn't publicly discussing a possible motive. The commander will only say that the killing wasn't random.
Police Chief Mike Arnold says it was the city's first homicide since 2006. About 10,600 people live in Swansea.
It's unclear whether McDavid has an attorney. He does not have a listed home telephone number.
