TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTHI) - Vigo County health officials said there's nothing to be afraid of when it comes to getting the flu mist vaccine. Even though the vaccine is a live form, it is a weakened form.

Officials said if you get the flu mist, there is no way you can give the weakened strain to someone else.

Megan Bland with the Vigo County Health Department said the live part of the vaccine dies once it reaches body temperature. It can die as soon as it passes through the nose or goes down the trachea.

The chicken pox and the MMR vaccines are also given in live form.
