TERRE HAUTE. Ind. (WTHI) - A local school ranks among the most dangerous colleges in America.
According to a new study conducted by web-based group Business Insider, Indiana State University ranked 13 nationally for being one of the most dangerous schools.
ISU Police Chief Bill Mercier says those numbers include crimes such as larceny, which are not necessarily violent or dangerous crimes.
“Most people who live and work go and go to school here find this a pretty safe place to be. Generally, if you talk to folks, you’ll find that most of the people who are here are pretty comfortable and this is a relatively safe place to be,” Mercier said.
The web group released a follow up of that study using data from The Cleary Act.
It focuses on more dangerous crimes and excludes things like theft.
In that report, no Indiana schools appear in the top 25.
