BRIDGEPORT, Ill. (WTHI) - When President Barack Obama takes the Oath of Office Monday morning, a group of Wabash Valley students will be on hand.

Thirty students from Red Hill High School in Bridgeport, Illinois are traveling to Washington D.C. to attend the president’s inauguration and an inaugural ball.

“You get to read about all these things in the textbook … but to be able to actually be there and to witness everything, I think is a really cool thing,” said junior Justin Smith.

The students have been working for months to raise enough money to pay for their trip, said social studies teacher Ryan Cox.

“It’s always a wonderful experience and a rewarding experience as an educator to take these students and let them see some of the things that should be cherished in our country’s history,” Cox said.

The students leave for Washington D.C. Friday night. Several student journalists will also cover the event online.
