TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTHI) - It may be the end of July, but we're a little more than two weeks away from the start of school.
Preparing your kids to head back to school can be a difficult task.
The change from a carefree summer to an event filled school year is a tough one for many parents.
In Vigo County, classrooms will be filled sooner than you think.
School starts August 14, giving parents about two weeks to get their kids classroom ready.
Most of the tips we've heard seem pretty easy but make a big difference.
They include getting your child back on the routines of school times and preparing them for the work that's ahead.
"Start now,” explained the Vigo County School Corporation’s Ray Azar. “Do it slowly, and by the time August 14th roles around, they'll be ready for school.”
“Anytime a parent can be involved with a student in a way that gets them academically oriented, I think, is a good thing,” Azar continued. “I know parents that do that all year long. They don't take a summer break. They actually work with their kids all year long, and those kids really benefit from that type of activity at home."
Experts say a little preparation before the year could mean a big difference.
