TERRE HAUTE, IND. (WTHI) -
A local group celebrates a little know American holiday. It's not a well-known anniversary, but one that's very important to the history of our nation.
Monday was constitution day.
It was on September 17th, 1787 that George Washington presented the constitution to the Continental Congress.
Locally, Rose Hulman holds an annual event to remember the importance of that day. The topic of Monday's program was about the protection civil liberties give ordinary citizens.
"Seems to me that the one of the great successes of the constitution is the fact that it defends civil liberties," said Frank Young, the event's guest speaker. "it does prevent the majority from coercing the minority into doing anything."
This year is special because it's the 225th anniversary of the constitution.
